    Charles Julius Medicus became a naturalized citizen of the United
    States on 21 June 1872 in the Common Pleas Court of New York County,
    New York.
    Two enumerations of the 1870 US Census were conducted in New York
    City. The first enumeration had an effective date of 1 June 1870 and
    the second was conducted in December 1870 and January 1871.
    The first enumeration for Ward 8, Election District 8, New York City,
    New York Co., NY lists Charles Medicus, age 43, occupation French
    Baker, born in Prussia. Included in his household is five year old
    Charles F. Medicus who is the child of Charles and Julia Baudau, who
    died in August 1869.
    The second enumeration for Ward 8, Election District 5, New York
    City, New York Co., NY lists C. J. Medicus, occupation Baker, born
    Prussia, living at 6 Grand Street. Included in his household is six
    year old Fred Medicus who is the same individual as "Charles F.,
    above.
    Information contained in the Naturalization Papers of Charles Julius
    Medicus, dated 21 June 1872 and the Passport Application of Charles
    Frederick Eugene Medicus, dated 12 August 1889 substantiate their
    relationship as father and son.
